Airplane Décor – When aviation was still in its infancy the U.S. Navy contracted with the Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company to make a flying boat. It was the early days of WW I and the Navy wanted to complete long-range patrols. At that time, the Curtiss NC, called Navy Curtiss and nicknamed “Nancy” boat, was the largest biplane ever built. Our U.S. Navy airplane propeller is a replica inspired by the Curtiss NC. The propeller is handmade from mahogany wood and the shape is similar to that of the propellers used on the flying boat. We have painted the propeller a blue/green and gold color combination that were popular colors on Navy boats at that time. The antiqued brass edging and gold crown logo on the blades add a decorative touch.
