The Airplane Bookends start with each piece being hand cast into a bronze mold. Molten zinc is hand poured in each mold and it is this base metal that gives each piece its weight. After casting the “gates” are broken off and the seam lines are hand sanded and smoothed. The pieces are then buffed, which is a critical step, as any flaws must be eliminated and the surface smooth before plating. After a series of cleansing baths, the silver tone Airplane Bookends are plated in nickel followed by drying. Each piece is hand polished on a leather wheel followed by a dipping process that includes lacquering. Finally the piece is then dried and baked to provide for lasting beauty.
Each side of the Airplane Bookend measures about 4 ¾" long by 3" wide by 5 ¾" high. Shipping weight is calculated at 6lbs.
