The Lockheed P-3 Orion is a maritime patrol aircraft used by numerous navies and air forces around the world. It is used primarily for maritime patrol, reconnaissance, anti-surface warfare and anti-submarine warfare. The first flight of the P-3 Orion was on November 25, 1962 and the aircraft began service in 1962 and remains active today. Lockheed built 650 P-3s and had various paint schemes. In the early 1960s a blue and white scheme was used, and then a white and gray scheme was used in the mid-1960s and finally in the mid-1990s low visibility gray was the color of choice.
