Aviation Poster – The High Flight Aviation Poster with
High Flight poem is stunning aviation poster art. This High Flight Aviation Poster beautifully depicts a Spitfire V ascending toward the clouds with the High Flight poem in the lower right corner. The author, John Gillespie Magee, Jr., penned the poem at the tender age of 19 just before his passing in a midair collision.
This is probably the most famous aviation poem ever written and has inspired untold numbers of aviators. It reads:
“Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds, and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of, wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wing along, and flung my eager craft through the footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle flew- and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God.”
The same high quality standards that are used to produce expensive art prints are used in the production of this poster. The poster paper is heavy and hard in order to preserve tiny details. The poster is also coated with a satin finish that reduces glare and enhances the presentation. Poster size is about 36" by 24" and the poster arrives rolled in a plastic sleeve. Shipping weight is calculated at 1 lb.
