Product Description

Elite Core IFR Simulator
IFR Simulation: The Elite Core flight simulation software is a full-featured IFR flight simulator trainer. Elite Version 8.0 of the Core instrument flight training program features simulated flight in the Cessna 172R and Piper Archer III.

The flight dynamics of these airplanes are some of the best in the industry. When developing the software, the programmers, that are also pilots, start the aircraft modeling with the manufacturer’s specifications. Then, they fly the aircraft to see how the airplane really handles. The end result is superior flight dynamics with simulated flight that is incredibly realistic!

Described below are the powerful software features that are standard in the Elite Core program.

DATABASES: The navigational database includes the entire United States and Canada. This allows the pilot to shoot any instrument approach within this area. For pilots outside this flying area, a Worldwide Navigational Database is available for additional cost. In addition, the software also includes an international GPS database. The Elite software supports a visual database for the continental United States called GenView™. GenView is a visual display database that will allow the pilot to fly in the virtual world with accurate digital elevation models and vector data displaying rivers, lakes, shorelines, highways, railroads, and urban areas. Additionally, every airport environment is highly rendered with runway designators, runway lighting, approach light systems, and lighted generic taxiways.

BASIC AND ADVANCED INSTRUMENTATION: The cockpits of the Cessna 172R and Piper Archer III are beautifully rendered, high-resolution panels. This gives the user the depth and clarity that is found on a real aircraft panel. And, the movement of the instruments during simulated flight matches that of a real aircraft. The software features switchable ADF/RMI, DG/HSI, and Moving Map display. For GPS approaches the Trimble 2000 Approach Plus™ GPS, and the Apollo GX Series GPS are also included.

DYNAMIC WEATHER MODELING: The weather module greatly enhances the instrument training environment. With access to the Internet, the pilot is able to download METAR reports and fly actual real time weather. Using GenView, the pilot has a fully programmable 3-D weather system that further improves the simulation experience by providing realistic obstructions to visibility such as cloud layers, and layer transition zones for IFR, MVFR or VFR on top. The pilot can also easily program in weather parameters such as ceiling, wind speed, wind direction, turbulence, visibility, and specify gradual improvement or degradation. The weather modeling program is so complete that a rated instrument pilot will continue to use this feature to practice instrument approaches in “must go” flights. This gives the pilot a much higher comfort level when the real flight is executed since the procedures were practiced under similar conditions. New with version 8.0 is “Spot Weather.” On the Map page the pilot will see the current weather at the aircraft’s current position. Instance access for visibility, pressure, air temperature and winds are shown.

COMPREHENSIVE FLIGHT REVIEW: Flight review is an essential part of the instrument flight training process. Did you bust altitude? At what point was an error made in the simulated flight causing a missed approach? During the flight the ground track, altitude profile, and readouts of the navigation instruments are automatically recorded for later replay on the Map Page. During replay the pilot will see gear and flap positions, airspeed, altitude, flightpath, and other pertinent information. The pilot will instantly learn what corrections to make to improve the next flight. Using click and drag the pilot is quickly able to reposition the aircraft to restart the approach at any point. Practice difficult intersection holds, DME arcs, NDB approaches, and approach and departures procedures. The flight information may be saved or printed for review with a flight instructor. The Elite software also includes Hot Plates™ which is an approach plate chart reviewer.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURE TRAINER: No good IFR simulator is complete without a sophisticated failure system. Every pilot needs to know how to quickly and correctly respond to an in-flight emergency. This software provides an ideal platform to practice these procedures. Selectively fail specific instruments, systems, engine, or avionics receivers, or let the computer randomly generate malfunction scenarios. Another enhancement with version 8.0 is a new INOP instrument cover. It looks like a rubber suction cup for partial panel work. Overall, there are up to 250 failure mode combinations that provide for the best possible emergency procedure training.

Of course, this powerful software comes with a 30-day money back guarantee. Shipping weight is calculated at 4 lbs.

There are a variety of control devices such as yokes, rudder pedals, power quadrants, flight consoles, and avionics panels that are compatible with the Elite Core software. Please see Simulator Control Devices for an indepth description, and images of these control units.

System requirements for IBM PC-compatible: Minimum configuration should be Windows 98/NT4 (sr3)/2000/XP, Pentium II 500 MHz, 128MB RAM, about 1.2GB free hard drive space, 32MB graphics card with full OpenGL support, 1024 X 768 resolution, soundcard, CD-ROM, mouse, floppy drive, and free USB port.
