The C-47 Skytrain aircraft, also known as the Dakota, was manufactured by Douglas. It was developed from the DC-3 Airliner and its primary use was for military transport. It was frequently used by the Allies during World War II and is noted for helping with troop movement in the jungles of New Guinea and Burma to counter the Japanese advantage of a very mobile, light-traveling army. The C-47 also played an important role in the Berlin Airlift and stayed in front line operations through the 1950s although few remain in flight today.
This authentic, extraordinary replica of the original aircraft has been faithfully reproduced with kiln dried Philippine mahogany wood. Each model is meticulously carved, hand sanded and painted following exact blueprint details of the original aircraft. The result is a handsome, wood airplane sculpture to be admired and enjoyed.
